A collection of photographs taken during 9 weeks on the Appalachian Trail.
Laura and Emily Smith are two artists I met in Alfred, NY. The pair are extremely gifted dancers, and are heading their own dance company Six and Four Articulations with five other artists, which is about to embark (or has just embarked) on a cross country tour from the east to the west and back. Check out their website to see if you can catch them on the road.
Work made at Alfred University in the Fall of 2011 and the Spring of 2012:
As it Happens:
Images are in high supply today; rarely do we think twice about where they come from, or even what they mean to us.
Questions are nearly always better than their answers. Just the right amount of mystery is necessary to give a work importance and maintain its urgency. It is a careful balance though, enigmatic and esoteric works repel more than allure.
Afterwords I remember thinking to myself, “A year later and still, it rains.”
This is only a selection of work from a series, the rest of the work can be seen here
